A Casa HOY volunteer shares a few words about her trip...
20.12.2011 - 04.12.2012
Over Christmas/winter break, Casa HOY was visited by volunteers from several different countries. Some people stayed for a week, others for two weeks. All of them had a wonderful time taking in the holiday festivities in Mexico and doing volunteer work during the break. One volunteer was kind enough to share a testimonial with us. Read on for Jane's experience at Casa HOY:
How fortunate for my first volunteer abroad experience to be with Casa Hoy which is a wonderful home filled with life and love. My experience volunteering was truly one of connection – with Gerardo, Katy and Amelia, with other volunteers and with the girls at Casa Perlas. Felt so well cared for – from orientation to meals to Katy going with us on our first day to long conversations over dinner. Being at Casa Hoy was my favorite thing about the whole trip. It was really hard to leave. My favorite thing about volunteering was being able to be with girls that needed love and attention and provide some of that - even if very temporary. What was lovely to me was that some of the girls could open their hearts while knowing we would be leaving. They have so little in terms of material things but many still had love and joy and spirit. Casa Hoy changed my experience of travel from passive to active and I would do it over and over again – and hope to!
